Unmasked: Reimagining the Ramayana for the Modern World

"Unmasked" is an innovation in the storytelling of the classic tale of Ramayana. This production, which brings fresh life to the ancient legend of the Ramayana. "Unmasked”  masterfully combines the classical beauty of Bharatanatyam with modern storytelling. All of this, under the artistic leadership of Jyotsna Shourie and Aneesha Grover.

In September of 2023, “Unmasked” was performed at the Royal Opera House in Mumbai. The audience had the opportunity to travel to Treta Yug to witness the story unfold in Lanka. This dance-theater dramedy spotlights different subplots and characters in Ramayana. Engaging viewer reflections on the age-old qualm of good versus evil.

Critically acclaimed Bharatanatyam artist and choreographer Jyotsna Shourie directed the production while dancer-producer Aneesha Grover produced it. Daniel B George created the music and the vocals are by Carnatic maestro OS Arun.

A collaboration contemporary dance, comedy and theater, mythology and fiction, this is a unique production everyone is talking about.
